Message from Tim:
Our culture is deeply important to us as a core team, leadership team — and to me personally. In every startup and scaleup, culture is one of the decisive factors: it can be the reason a company thrives as it grows, or the reason it stumbles. We want to be deliberate about it. When we were 20 people, we had a clear set of values and a shared understanding of how we wanted to work together. But as we grew, we didn’t always manage to scale/ transfer those values, respectively the understanding of how we “live” them. Now, with almost 100 of us, the ambition to reach 200 by the end of next year, and plans to open new hubs, while becoming more remote-friendly, it’s time to catch up and put culture front and center again.
To do this, I need your help. This is important. We’ve prepared a set of cultural categories and principles of which a subset could describe any culture of any company. We’d like you to tell us which ones matter most to you. Which matter most to us. As we can’t focus on 100 things at once, this exercise is about finding the four principles that matter most to us. We can then build our culture around those. Your perspective will show us where we should put our focus as we grow.
This exercise is about defining who we want to be — who we want to become — as blp grows and as we make our values more explicit. Imagine blp a year from now: twice the size we are today, with new hubs in Germany, UK, and Spain, and our work being more remote-friendly. What kind of place do you want to work at? Which principles should guide us as we build the next stage together?
Thank you for taking the time to share your view. Your input will shape the culture that carries blp into its next chapter. After all, people are our one and only asset.
